Glenmore's 18-hole championship course-named one of Virginia's 10 best by Golf Digest in 1997-was designed John LaFoy of Taylors, SC. The course served as the host of the 2000 National Junior Western Championship.

"Natural bunkers, terrain hazards, creeks, lakes, high native grasses, gently rolling knolls and fairway glens add to the authenticity of Glenmore's planned Scottish landscape architecture," LaFoy says.

LaFoy is responsible for the design and renovation of more than 50 golf courses, including Augusta National, site of the prestigious Masters Tournament. The Georgian-style clubhouse overlooks a course that weaves through hills, dales, woods, lakes, pastures and river bottoms. Elevated tees, tight fairways, generous greens and sometimes tricky bunkering define this 6,849-yard layout. The fourth-hole is the signature spot of the course.

Real Estate

There are no townhouses, timeshares or condominiums-just single-family homes and homesites with prices ranging from $125,000 to $1 million+. Single-family homes, premier homesites and cottages have either woods, lakeside, mountain or golf course views. Once a homesite is purchased, there is no time requirement as to when you must build.

The properties don't appear to stay on the market long, as the Glenmore Web-site has a bevy of homes under the title: "Just Sold." The Glenmore Getaway Package gives visitors chance to see if Glenmore is for them.

Miscellaneous

Glenmore has a professional, on-site Equestrian Center complete with a 32-stall barn, event show ring, teaching arena, seven miles of bridle paths and numerous lush pastures. Other amenities include a state-of-the-art swimming, tennis and fitness center complete with views of nearby Monticello Mountain.
